Description

If you emit the -v or --verbose option more than three times on an lttng command line, the lttng client treats this as no verbosity at all.

It would make more sense for verbosity to saturate at level three. That is to say, more than 3 verbose flags should be treated as 3 verbose flags (instead of none).
